The Johnson family has been in the cattle business at the same location since the early 1922. Jan's grandfather, Bax Johnson, was the first owner, followed by his son Ralph. Mainly a commercial operation for most of those years, Jan started a registered angus herd for a few years in the 70's and early 80's. After the dispersal of the angus herd, Kelly, Jeff, and Brandon concentrated on show steers. In Brandon's last 4-H years, chiangus heifers were added to the show string, and three of these heifers became the foundation animals for RiverBend Chiangus in 1995. The herd now consists of approximately 75 chiangus and angus cows. RiverBend is proud of their chiangus cattle and believes chiangus to be the best cattle for today and into the future. Riverbend cattle are bred with the commercial as well as the purebred operation in mind. Look for the JRBF prefix the next time you buy cattle.
